Fluorocarbon has a similar refraction index as water, and is therefore almost invisible under water. Therefore, the use of fluorocarbon is especially recommended for very shy and wary fish, and very clear water. Other benefits include better abrasion resistance and less stretch for better contact with the lure. Fluorocarbon can be used as a main line as well as a snood. Since fluorocarbon is heavier than other lines, even small baits, which are otherwise limited in their operating characteristics, are optimally useable. The load capacity is; however, lower than that of nylon strings of the same diameter.
