Fluorocarbon line
Fluorocarbon line is used for almost all types of finesse rigs. Particularly abrasion-resistant and almost invisible underwater, we need approx. 80 cm of fluorocarbon line for mounting the Carolina rig.
Bullet pin
To be able to set a flexible leader length on the Carolina rig, we recommend using a bullet pin. This eliminates the time-consuming change of rig and allows you to fish effectively with the C-rig with different leader lengths and heavy bullets.
Offset hook
Although the Carolina rig is less suitable for use in the cover, an offset hook should also be selected here. Only when the bites are very tentative or the target fish is particularly suspicious should single hooks be used as an alternative.
Bullet weights
Tungsten bullet weights are used to ensure that the Carolina rig reaches the bottom of the water at the desired speed. Due to the higher material density compared to lead, bullet weights sink much faster and also fly better.
Beads
The glass bead or sound bead is a central component of the rig. If the bullet weight hits the bead when jigging, it draws attention to itself with a loud clicking sound.
Soft bait
The type of soft bait used on the Carolina rig is largely determined by the type of bait and the target fish. For fast perch jigging, we use classic action shads with a paddle tail. If, on the other hand, the rig is ground slowly over the bottom, we generally use creature baits, rubber crayfish and low-action shads.Fishing instructions for the Carolina rig
Step 1:
Depending on the maximum desired leader length, take approx. 50 to 100 cm of fluorocarbon line from the spool and thread on the tungsten bullet weight
Step 2:
Then thread the sound bead or glass bead onto the side of the leader where the bullet weight has a large, concave indentation on the underside.
Step 3:
For flexible adjustment of the leader length, insert the bullet pin into the bead as far as it will go and cut off the protruding end. This ensures that the bead sits firmly on the leader without damaging the line. The leader length can be individually adjusted by moving the bead. Note: In the basic version of the Carolina rig, normal rubber stoppers are often used in front of the bead. However, with weights over 10 g, these regularly shift with every movement. Our recommendation with a bullet pin reliably holds the bead or sound bead in position.
Step 4:
Connect the end of the leader to the offset hook using a knot, attach the rubber bait and the Carolina rig is ready to use.
